It’s a food show! And I really like it! Or, at least, I liked the first two episodes of season 2 that aired in April. I only realized today that they started airing more of Season 2 at the beginning of June. How did I miss that? I dunno.

Lucky for me ABC has Full Episodes posted on its website.

What is it I like about the show? First of all, I like Jamie Oliver. I never watched much of his other shows but I’m always happy to keep him on if I happen to catch him on TV. He’s charming and earnest and fun to watch. His books are well worth reading if you like cooking on any level.

With Food Revolution (and some of his other shows that have aired in the UK or wherever it is that us American’s usually fail to pay attention to), he does more than just show recipes or cooking tips or spastic ways to cook meals in 30 minutes (ugh Rachel Ray). He has a definite purpose and that purpose is educating people to make healthy choices. Going even more specific, he’s trying to educate parents to make healthy choices for their children. And in Season 2 he goes up against LAUSD. LA Unified School District. Yeah. Good luck to him.

Even before I watched the first two episodes back in April, I had to think he was taking on quite a lot. I mean, this is LA. And the school board. That’s not just going to be hard. That’s going to be near impossible.

So now I’m looking forward to watching more episodes, finding out how he’s fared. I love his message – eat fresh, eat real food, learn to cook. Cooking might be intimidating but it really doesn’t have to be. There are so many simple, tasty, and healthy options out there. And you know what? A tomato picked in season and locally actually tastes like something! That something being delicious. As compared to the perfectly red, round things you find in the grocery. There’s a reason for that too.

I won’t push the vegetarian thing on people (even though I think it’s wonderful) but as for the rest of it? What’s your excuse for continuing to by the processed crap? Do you really need that much sugar? Or whatever the hell the rest of those ingredients are?

As Jamie says, if he was making over your kitchen: “I’d toss everything that looks like it was made in science lab and add in salads.”

That seems like a great place to start.
