All of the Star Trek

So I know you all know I’m a giant nerd. But in case you didn’t, I just went and got very excited about Star Trek.

First, I went and joined Wrong Opinions About Movies for a special podcast on Star Trek Insurrection. Matthew and the gang did a whole series of Star Trek episodes leading up to the release of Into Darkness this week and they’re all pretty fun, you should check them out! My episode is here.

THEN, this week’s episode of That Bar is all just me being excited about the Trekkie goodness. Into Darkness? Next Generation? Benedict Cumberbatch? I am excited about it all!

Mind Meld anyone?

I really can’t wait to see Into Darkness. No spoilers!

Unemployed Girl

Hi! Yeah, so that’s me! Unemployed girl. Been out of the job for over a month now, which is weird, and I don’t really know why I haven’t posted anything yet. I haven’t really had time to watch any movies so that’s part of it. And I’ve been stupid busy, which is random considering the part where I have no job…

Things have been fine so far I guess. Day I found out the job was going away was pretty rough. Then the next week was weird. I was moving (I signed the lease to my new apt 2 days before I found out I lost my job. Fun?) so I actually appreciated having the time to finish packing and all that. Then after the move I was out of town a lot, I turned 30 (whoa), and April kind of just got away from me.

Now it’s May. I still have no job. Still just sending my resume around, hoping for some sort of call back, not entirely sure what it is I’m even looking for…

And filling my time with stuff that actually sort of counts as work even if it’s not currently paying me. I’m producing some stuff, I’m writing a screenplay, and I’m making this webseries thing with Gina & Rachael. That’s enough to more than fill up my days, I promise.

But hey, if you haven’t seen our webseries yet, you should check it out! It’s very silly. And there are drinks. We all know how I feel about drinks.

I’m going to try and post more here again I think. It’s a great way to procrastinate from the screenplay writing. Which right now is making me want to punch things. So yeah, I’m procrastinating. I can’t tell if that’s helping with the punchiness or not yet. I’ll let you know.

Stuff, things. I need a job. I guess.

Work Work Work

Work!!!

I was out having beers with a friend Friday night and he asked me what movies I’ve seen lately. And, well, the answer was none? The last movie I’d watched was Perks of Being a Wallflower a week and half before. Since Friday I’ve only watched one more. I really want to watch The Big Lebowski, just because it’s one of the most awesomest movies ever, but who the heck knows when I’ll have the time.

It’s just busy work time. Up until Friday I’d had 1 day off in two weeks. Plus on top of work work, I’ve got a super secret thingy that Gina and I have been writing. Which I’m really excited about and can’t wait to share here. But not yet.

That’s it. I’m just busy. And there’s a dead animal under my house that smells like old moldy wet towel. Other than that things are good.

I’ll have more to write here soon. Promise!

January Movie Wrap Up

Got off to an okay start with the movie watching in January. I was a bit slower than last year but I did still manage to watch a good 20 movies. And 3 of those were The Lord of the Rings so that counts for like double, right?

I watched 12 movies I’d never seen before which is decent. I’m still catching up on all of the Oscar movies. I need to see Zero Dark Thirty and Amour for best picture. I’d like to see at least Searching for Sugar Man in the docs. And I’ve only seen one of the foreign films this year. Oops. After I watch Frankenweenie tonight (Yay!) I’ll only need to see Pirates! Band of Misfits for the animation.

I have time to watch a couple more before the Oscars, right?

I actually don’t care all that much about the Academy Awards. I’ll probably watch them because my friend will probably have an Oscar party but really, whatever. There are so many good movies that happen, the Academy Awards always seem to be a rather arbitrary judge of actual quality. It’s fun to keep up though I guess.

Here are my January movies!

1/1/2013 Fellowship of the Rings
1/2/2013 Silver Linings Playbook
1/4/2013 The Two Towers
1/4/2013 Take This Waltz
1/4/2013 Sleepwalk With Me
1/5/2013 The Queen of Versailles
1/8/2013 Beetlejuice
1/8/2013 Return of the King
1/9/2013 The Deep Blue Sea
1/10/2013 The Nightmare Before Christmas
1/10/2013 James and the Giant Peach
1/11/2013 The Muppet Movie
1/12/2013 The Invisible War
1/14/2013 Take Shelter
1/17/2013 Bourne Legacy
1/20/2013 Beasts of the Southern Wild
1/21/2013 Jiro Dreams of Sushi
1/23/2013 How to Survive a Plague
1/23/2013 Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
1/27/2013 Shirin

Highlights of the month were LotR obviously. Invisible War, Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and How to Survive a Plague are all great documentaries. I loved Take Shelter and Shirin was great. I always love anything Muppets. And of course Beetlejuice and Nightmare Before Christmas for old time comforty favorites while I had the flu.

I’m off to a good start this month but I have a really busy Feb with work and stuff coming up so I don’t know how much I’ll realistically get to watch. It’s a short month anyway. I dunno. See what happens I guess!
