Kind of a neat thing in the New York Times the other day. An archive of old nitrate film prints from the 1910’s and 20’s was discovered down in NZ and they’re now in the process of being repatriated and restored. Most sound to be westerns, at least most of the ones now being restored, but even more exciting are the few by women filmmakers. Early works by women are notoriously hard to find and to have these examples be made public would be wonderful. Plus, early John Ford, not so bad.

And a link to the National Film Preservation Foundation: http://www.filmpreservation.org/

It’s a pretty cool site to check out. In addition to streaming a selection of films online, there’s a lot of great info on film preservation and how it works.
