We made it! Happy New Year! 2013! Woo! Party Hats!
Dudes, my brain is not working yet today. Which is fair I guess since KT and I were up watching Lord of the Rings all night last night and I only slept for a few hours before my flight home this morning. Or rather, I napped. As KT put it.
I hope everyone had a lovely NYE, a good end to 2012, and a happy start to 2013.
I suppose this is my WHAT HAPPENED IN 2012/WHAT DO I WANT 2013 TO BE post. I don’t really do resolutions or anything so there’s none of that to share although I certainly have my hopes for what I’d like to see 2013 bring. The years have just been getting progressively better in general, I feel like I’m getting my life slowly in order. Incredibly slowly. But still, it’s happening. I turn 30 this year and believe it or not, I’m looking forward to this. I generally like who I am and where I am, I’m happy with the direction of things, and I’m just excited to see what’s next.
To update on my healthy eating experiment of the last month and a half, it went pretty well! I avoided french fries. I didn’t do so well on the no eggs but I’m proud of how I managed on the dairy. I didn’t make it completely dairy free but it was super close. I had to make an exception for my mom’s pumpkin pie. And I gave in and had pizza once when my friends were in visiting from DC. But otherwise! No cheese! Crazy!
I am going to eat the hell out of some pizza this weekend though. Just you wait and see.
On to the movies then! I haven’t updated my November or December movies so first things first, here are those:

12/30/2012 Les Miserables
So that was 14 movies in November (how was November so busy? What did I even do?!), 8 of which I had not seen before. 17 in December, 15 new ones for me. Pretty good. I caught up a bit at the end of the month when I had vacation times.
I didn’t do much of break down on what I watched over all other than to just keep track of the number. In the end, I ended up watching 209 movies throughout the year. 139 of those were ones I had never seen before. I feel like I watched a ton but still like I missed even more.
Harder question than the numbers, what did I actually think of the movies overall? There were some that I just loved. Holy Motors, Safety Not Guaranteed, The Avengers, Damsels in Distress, A Royal Affair, Wreck-It Ralph, Cabin in the Woods, and ParaNorman were some of my favorites to come out this year. Anna Karenina, Prometheus, and The Dark Knight Rises were my biggest let downs. I was really excited to see films by Godard, Max Ophuls, and Jacques Demy in screenings around town. And also pleasantly surprised by how many movies actually looked good in 3D (Life of Pi, ParaNorman, even The Hobbit). The Hobbit wasn’t nearly as good as the LotR trilogy but I loved getting to visit that world again and Martin Freeman is my favorite as Bilbo Baggins. I’ve also been watching a lot of Sherlock and excited by everything Cumberbatch happening.
I’m ashamed to admit I have still not seen The Master and feel like a failure of a PTA fan. I also still need to see Silver Linings Playbook, Beasts of the Southern Wild, and many, many others. I’m going to wait to rent Lincoln though. I’m sure it’s amazing but I just feel like I’d rather watch it from my couch. Zero Dark Thirty I will see in the theater.
I can’t wait to watch more movies at Cinefamily and I’m super excited they reached their Kickstarter fundraising goal. Digital Projector! New comfy seats! Movies all the time! Yay!
And that’s it. I don’t know what else. It was a fun year for movies. I’ll keep the updates coming for 2013. Let’s see if I can beat the count of 209. What’s a good goal for this year? 225? 250? How about I just see how far I can get.
Here we go, 2013. Let’s see where you take us.

You beat me by 9 movies! Though I did see more new-to-me movies than you.
I also like that we both started the new year with Lord of the Rings.

Haha, nice. You know, I have to be honest, I don’t really care about the New To Me movies thing. People kept asking so I started counting but I feel like watching movies more than once counts just as much. Especially cause most of the time I’m either watching them for a research-y type reason, to show one to someone who has never seen it before, or because I have the chance to see a special screening. But it is a fun number to know.

For me, it’s just that I don’t feel like I watch enough new-to-me movies; that I just keep going back to my comfort food movies over and over and over again. I need to expand my horizons!

That’s fair too!
